この度、アイショウミウラアーツでは9月25日より山田周平による初の個展"アメリカの夜"を開催致します。
山田は群馬青年ビエンナーレ、写真新世紀優秀賞受賞にはじまり、近年ではGEISAI#14にて最優秀賞の金賞を受賞するなど、時間をかけながらも確実に力をつけてまいりました。また活動範囲も海外のアートフェアやグループ展への参加などを通じて広がりを見せ、国際的な評価も高まりつつあります。
山田は写真が持つイメージと概念に着目し作品を制作しています。"Round-around" (*1)シリーズでは映る場所を特定出来るであろう全ての文字やグラフィックが取り除かれています。これにより、写真を見た時に誰もがまず得ようとする「どこで記録したのか」という情報を削除しました。写真の『記録する』という重要なファクターを削除された写真は、その情報に隠れて本来見えにくかった構図や色など、写真の持つ情報以外の部分を鮮明に浮き立たせました。
"Untitled(bob)" (*2)に見られる後ろ姿ポートレートのシリーズでは、同じ人物にウィッグやその他装飾品を付け個性を覆い隠した状態でポートレートの撮影を行い写真の『記録する』という絶対的な部分に綻びを持たす試みを行いました。また近年制作している"Untitled -park-" (*3)シリーズにおきましては、記録した場所性の削除に加え、色、時間、までもを削除の対象とし極限まで何も無いミニマルな状態をつくり出しました。
写真を撮影した時点をゼロ（出発点）と定めそこから様々なモノや概念を引き算していくことで作品が出来上がる独自の制作スタイルは自身の扱うメディアや社会と常に真摯に向き合うことで生まれました。山田は、無数のイメージ・情報が多重している今、過剰な情報量が本質との差異を生み、そこに空虚を感じることが出来るといいます。
彼の作品はそういったイメージを削除していくことで本質に近づこうとする、あるいはそこに出来た空虚を表現しています。それは本物を求める本能の行動の現れであり、イメージの中に生きる我々への新しいモノの見方を与えるキッカケでもあるのです。
今回の展覧会ではこれまでの制作過程を動画に応用した作品を発表します。一度削除した時間に一定のベクトルを持つ時間ではなく面のように広がりを見せる新しい時間を与えることで、写真作品と同様に動画のもつ時間と空間のつくる純度の高いイメージがそこに現れます。

AISHO MIURA ARTS is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Shuhei Yamada (1974- ) from 25th Sep to Oct 23rd, 2010.
Yamada exhibited at "Gunma Biennale for Young Artists" and he was awarded "New Cosmos of Photography" Recent years, he also got highest award at GEISAI#14
During that he is coming into his abilities. Appreciation of his works became a high standing by participation in art fair and group exhibition at abroad.
Yamada create a works to spotlight on photography of concept and images. About "Round-around" (*1). There are no words and graphics which people guess places. In this way , he eliminates information that everyone wanted to know where the picture taken.
That photography become clear composition and colors after eliminated “to document” that important factor of photography.
About "Untitled(bob)" (*2) back shot portraits, A women becloud her individuality with wig and accessories. He was trying to “to document” is not perfect.
About "Untitled -park-" (*3) it’s new series, he eliminates information about place not also time, color. As a result, He succeeded to make utmost minimal condition of photography.
His production style is to subtract some concept and so many things from a photography . He germinate this style depending on face the media and society
Yamada said there are too many images and information by TV, website, any other advertisement. We have difficulty seeing the distillate that paper over.
His works present to close in distillate by subtracting extra images. That is instinct of people to demand the fact.His works give new angle for us who live in so many information.
In this exhibition, we present his new works of “Untitled -park-“ move ver. And new photography.
