DONA
The painting ‘PARADISE’ has been on-going for the last 6years with the artist citing empyrean inspiration for the work. This approach has driven its creation and enables its ongoing proliferation; the version of ‘PARADISE’ we see is always a snapshot, an aspect of a moment of a life. We may never see the image complete, evoking the passage of ‘time’, including that already spent on its production to date and in the future, all bounded by the fragility of the limitation of time allowed us as human beings, within which infinite challenges can be explored. Dona’s inexhaustible image making is suggestive of a complex delicacy of being and genuine amazement at the potential of human creativity.
作品《PARADISE》は描き始めて6年がたつ。きっかけは自分が描きたいと思うイメージが天啓のように降ってきたことによるとドナはいうが、このようにハッキリとした理論から成り立っていないからこそ、作品は日々ドナが生きた分だけ増殖し続けている。つまり、私たちが見ることのできる《PARADISE》はつねに断片であり、ある生命の一場面にすぎない。完成されたイメージはもしかすると決して見ることはできないかもしれない。そのためか、ドナの作品にはつねにある種の「時間」が意識される。制作がつづけられた時間、これからもつづけられる時間、また、ヒトとして限られた時間の儚さとヒトが作りだすことのできる限りない時間へ挑戦。つきることのないイメージを生み出し続けるドナの仕事には、人間の創造行為に対する純粋な感動と生命の複雑な繊細さを見いだすことができる。
