AISHO MIURA ARTS is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Saya Kubota (1987- ) from July 3 to July 31, 2010. We will feature her recent installation using tracing paper works and LED, in addition, will publish a first artist book about this exhibition.
Saya Kubota was born in Japan and educated at school of Art & Design in University of Tsukuba, Japan. Now she is a graduate student of the department of painting in Tokyo University of the Arts.
Up to now, AISHO MIURA ARTS has presented Kubota’s unique paper works. These works are delicate composition of some parts of Japanese paper or Tracing paper both are singing by incense. Others, Kubota use many media or materials for giving expression to her thoughts, for example, oil painting, photograph and resin, ceramics, LED etc.
Before this exhibition, Kubota joined in “TOKUSHIMA LED ART FESTIVAL 2010” (April 17 – April 25). In this festival, Kubota sold her tracing paper work’s copy and organic vegetables purchased from local farming man, he always sells his vegetables beside large shopping center, and this “shop” was named Night Vegetable Shop (Yoru no Yaoya-san).
This action is given an eye to finding real meaning her works through comparing to vegetables. She said this was so important experience that I came face-to-face with my fears. But Kubota’s works were bought by local people with the vegetables, and she really went to a buyer’s house to look at her work together just beside cooking the vegetables and was invited another buyer’s house to introduce his original method of hanging her work on the wall.
In this exhibition, we present installation Night Vegetable Shop, specially using original tracing paper works at the residence. Kubota said she want to know feedback from people familiar with Art because her action in Tokushima was happily accepted by people who are not familiar with contemporary art in daily life. Through this experimentation Kubota enhances her creative thought more and more.

久保田沙耶（1987-）は、筑波大学芸術専門学群を卒業し、現在、東京藝術大学美術研究科絵画専攻油画修士課程に在籍しております。これまで、AISHO MIURA ARTSでは、線香の火力で和紙やトレーシングペーパーを焦がし、そのパーツを組み合わせることで自身のイメージを具体化する、久保田の特異な平面作品を紹介してきました。このたびは、この表現技法をさらに高め、今現在可能な限り、作品制作への思索も深めた久保田の新作を発表いたします。
今回の個展に先立ち、久保田は「徳島LEDアートフェスティバル2010」（2010年4月17-25日）にて、レジデンス制作をおこなってきました。そこで久保田は、「夜の八百屋さん」というネオン管の看板を掲げた店を構え、大型スーパーの横で自分の育てた野菜を売り続けるおじさんから仕入れたという有機野菜と、トレーシングペーパーで制作した作品のプリントを同時に販売しました。
生命活動の根本でもあるといえる野菜と、それとは真逆にある芸術作品を同じレベルで扱ったとき、自分の作品は本当に自信をもって紹介できるクオリティであるのか。この挑戦は、自らを恐怖の深みに落とし込むような、途方もない駆け引きであったと久保田はいいます。しかし、作品はほとんどが野菜とともに地元の人たちに買われ、久保田は実際に購入先の家に行き、野菜が料理される横で自分の作品が鑑賞される場や、購入者が作品にインスピレーションを受けて独自に壁にかけた場所へも招待されたそうです。
展示では、レジデンスの際にコピーされた作品のオリジナルを用いて、《夜の八百屋さん》を再現いたします。久保田は、「美術」の存在が当たり前ではない世界で自分の作品が受け入れられ、お互いの感性が刺激し合った状況を、今度は美術をよく知る人たちの前に出し、その反応が知りたいと述べています。今回、個展という実験の場をとおして、久保田はさらに制作の思索を深めることになります。また、展示に合わせて、久保田と関係者との対話をとおした、初のアーティスト・ブックも発行する予定です。
