Yoshihiro Kikuchi

Through a process of repetition, fusing both the physical and psychological, Kikuchi’s work finds expression through obsessive paintings and collages. From the challenges he sets himself, as evident in the sketchbooks, the minute process results in boldly colourful images, intermingling forms almost seductively grotesque in detail and reflective of the making process. This is for him a deeply personal activity, incorporating different media including the audible and physical, to create art work that encapsulates a psychological interpretation of his experiences, rendered with clarity in what may be perceived as an overly complex world.

融合と分離を繰り返す肉体と精神から表れる創造物。菊地の作品にはその全てが表現されている。純朴に、そして病的につくり出されるペインティングとコラージュ。スケッチブックの上に突如として生み出される限りない自身の肉体と精神への挑戦は緻密に取り組まれた作業と軌跡その行為にあざとく表れており、美しくポップである極彩色な見た目と、艶かしく緻密でグロテスクな生の部分が混在している。このような表現に至るのも、菊地自身が生命をかけた創造者であり、生まれてくる欲求を視覚表現に留まること無く聴覚表現、身体表現と多岐にわたる表現媒体を通して多角的な視野で実践することで立体的に精神のカタチをとらえていることにある。それは曇り無く完全な等身大の自分を表現する行為であり複雑になりすぎた社会精神の純化でもある。
