AISHO MIURA ARTS is pleased to announce a new group show, "TRANS COMPLEX" by Toshiaki Hikosaka and Goro Murayama. TRANS COMPLEX was a self-curated exhibition, which was chosen in "Exhibition Draft 2010," a competition organized by Kyoto Art Center.

Toshiaki Hikosaka was born in 1983, graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design. He has shown his artworks in various exhibitions, such as Shiseido Art Egg, MOT Annual 2008, and ARKO2009. His work is basically composed of chains of intricate and irregular patterns. He
puts clear colors and tones along the outlines of the patterns. He sets up the rules in the process himself. With his constant decisions on 'acceptable/unacceptable' actions, as a result, unpredictable distortions arise from the interaction in the process.

Goro Murayama was born in 1983, and is enrolled in a master's course at Tokyo University of the Arts. Currently he is studying at Chelsea Collage of Art in London as an exchange student. He has experienced MOT Collection 2009 and Shiseido Art Egg 2010, and been steadily building up his career. He weaves a canvas with ropes, and constructs a complex image on it by combining several given patterns. He terms his acts of producing a work a 'system'. By accepting and not accepting unpredictable distortions caused by repeated actions, he proposes the system for production.

They are similar in the way that they both set up external 'rules' or 'systems.' They purposely confront the rules, and create a work with the interactions between the rules and themselves. For instance, when we head to somewhere, we are regulated by traffic rules and social
environment, and available directions and places are limited. We are unconsciously pick up and throw away information, predicting the close future, to finally get to the destination. That is almost the same process as Hikosaka and Muraya state. It also reflects the whole social life. Because of numberless 'systems' and 'rules,' the process to reach a goal has a significant meaning.

Hikosaka and Murayama point out the fact that the 'rules' and 'systems' have been visualized by computer science. They call it "TRANS(parent) COMPLEX." They set up 'rules' and 'systems' in the process, and try to 'visible complexity' in the field of painting. Their work, as a metaphor of modern society, reveals an answer for new painting.

In this exhibition, they are showing the archival works from the show at Kyoto Art Center and new works. On April 9th (Sat), we are having a reception party. We hope you will come and enjoy it. On April 10th(Sun), we are going to have a talk with the artists about the exhibition theme.
